Sonntagsmatineen

In six concerts, the wide-ranging programme of the Sunday matinees invites you to encounter brilliant soloists, internationally renowned orchestras and musical masterpieces from baroque to modern times.

With Rudolf Buchbinder and Mischa Maisky, two of the most important representatives of their field can be experienced in two extraordinary concerts: The former will perform three piano concertos by the great 'classics' Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in the dual role of pianist and conductor together with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, while the latter will present all facets of his skills as a cellist with the dogma chamber orchestra and works by Bruch and Tchaikovsky - including his popular variations on a rococo theme. Two border crossers between musical worlds and styles dedicate themselves to discovering the unknown in the known in two further concerts: Nemanja Radulović, who opens up new perspectives on Bach and Beethoven with an unconventional, fresh approach, and Ragnhild Hemsing, who alternates between violin and traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle with the Trondheim Soloists to bring Nordic sounds centred around Grieg's famous theatre music Peer Gynt to Linz.

With works by Haydn, Mozart and Britten, Josef Sabaini and his Philharmonices mundi show just how diverse the symphonic form can sound, a programme thread that Constantin Trinks and the Munich Chamber Orchestra also pick up on with Mozart's perhaps most famous orchestral work, his 40th Symphony. In combination with Richard Dünser's congenial arrangement of Brahms' 1st Piano Quartet, whose solo part is performed by the piano duo Silver-Garburg, the series of Sunday matinees comes to a close in a concert dedicated entirely to the dramatic and captivating key of G minor!
